Guideline Series (2019) is a group of drawings that play on the idea of blueprints, thinking of guidelines (instructions, laws, or culture), grids, photo versus drawing, unexpected versus planned and expectations versus reality. Lines that were pre-existing and therefore are either still correct or being corrected. Which lines guide other lines? Which lines came first?

 

The drawings were made from a photo of part of my installation Waiting line, presented in the group exhibition In the fold, 2019 in the Schafer Gallery. I started by drawing from this photo and then, used the same photo in the cyanotype process. Cyanotype interested me because it depends on time and sun-light as well as its blue result.
